includes the demand of "Equal rights for Gay people."

Throughout the country, Gays have begun taking an active role in organizing for the march. Steve Ault, of the National Coalition of Gay Activists, is on the national board of the July 4th Coalition, sponsor of the march. Locally, members of the Cleveland Gay Political Union and the Gay Caucus of Youth Against War and Fascism, are

working on publicity and fundraising. The march also boasts the following national gay sponsors. Philadelphia G.A.A., Gay Anti-Imperalist News Services, and Bay Area Gay Liberation.

The mobilization is taking place at a time when attacks against our community are being intensified.

This can be seen nationally by the Supreme Court decision upholding anti-gay laws, and locally by the increased police harassment at the bars harassment which we strongly protested against last month in Akron. At the same time, attacks against all oppressed people are mounting: massive lay-offs, tremendous cutbacks in social services, increased Boston-style racist violence against Black people, coordinated campaigns against the ERA and the right of women to control their own

bodies and the continued unjust rule over the U.S. colony of Puerto Rico.

The July 4th Coalition urges you to attend and be a part of this historic demonstration. Join the Coalition in its efforts to build a successful mobilization. Help is needed on publicity and fundraising. We need to get the word out! Please contribute. There is a vital need for funds -local costs will exceed $2000. If you cannot go to Philadelphia, won't you buy a seat on the bus ($22) for someone who wants to go but cannot afford to? Make your reservation on the Cleveland bus as soon as possible. Write to the July 4th Coalition, P.O. Box 2404, East Cleveland, Ohio 44112, or call 721-8403. FIGHT BACK AGAINST GAY OPPRESSION. MARCH ON JULY 4TH.

PRESBA-METHO BLUES

In late May gays received a "Christian" setback when the General Assembly of the United Presbyterian Church in Baltimore voted that it would be "injudicious, if not improper" to ordain homosexuals into the ministry. After a two hour session, the church reiterated its position that the "practice of homosexuality is a sin." The delegates, however, voted to undertake a study of the "per-

plexing" question of homosexuality. The final report read "We do not believe that a position taken in any period sets forth the final understanding of His Word to the Church."

Over on the other side of the continent in Portland, the General Conference of the United Methodist Church refused to fund a broad study of

sexuality. The Conference also

changed their original statement that the church does "not recommend" marriage between people of the same sex to one that does "not recognize" marriage between same-sexed partners.

To date, the only major denominations that have accepted the ordination of gays are the United Church of Christ and the Episcopal Church.

Waaaanh!

Your discordant jeers Stoke the fire

That tempers the puny fears Of self-

Scrutiny in my heart's hollow.

If you continue to

Belch sporadic gibes Speeding to my heart's flatulence

Like numerous pointed barbs Painfully felt and singular

Yet squared and cubed

In poisonous effect

As though wrought by a

computer program Whose data I supplied Calling for a saturationBombing of my bread basket act,

If you continue by this attack

To lend reality to my martyrdom, Your numerous pricks, O heart's adverse ally, Should riddle nerve endings numb

And tutor easy eloquence-dumb.

Sporting thirty-three rooms with single mattresses, a lounge with TV and fireplace, a dormitory, exercise room, cedar sauna, steam room and coffee room featuring Tiger's Milk, the Cleveland Depo Baths at 1946 St. Clair recently celebrated its grand opening. A local enterprise, the Depo Baths is housed in a reconverted brownstone building.

Entrepreneur Jim Orazem commented, "We're not out to take any business from the other baths. We feel Cleveland is a big city. As more bars, baths and other gay activities come on the scene, gay people will stay in town. There's also more attractions for surrounding communities."

The Depo Baths plans to continue renovation from its present state. It is now open for business to all eighteen and

over.
